Beijing's National Indoor Stadium on Friday announced that it was solicit suggestions from around the world to give it a nickname ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

According to the stadium's official WeChat account, the nickname needs to showcase the building's characteristics including its appearance, color and decorations, and it should be concise, similar to other sports arenas such as the "Water Cube" and "Ice Ribbon."

First built in 2007 for the Beijing Summer Olympic Games, the designers of the National Indoor Stadium drew inspiration from the traditional Chinese folding fan andbased on the three principles of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics." It has become a landmark sports site in the capital.

This folding fan-like national stadium began undergoing renovation at the end of 2018 to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. After two years of renovations, it has now been enlarged to about 98,000 square meters,  looking like an "ice brick" embedded in the original building, according to the account.

During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the National Stadium will host all men's ice hockey events, some of the women's ice hockey finals, as well as the ice sled and ice hockey events for the Paralympic Winter Games, Beijing Daily reported on Sunday.
