Chinese Paralympians continue dominance in Tokyo

Team China continued their dominance atop the medal table at the Tokyo Paralympic Games on Tuesday. Chinese Paralympians bagged eight golds, three silvers and two bronzes, bringing their tally to 62 golds, 38 silvers and 32 bronzes.

The Chinese para-athletes also broke a series of records en route to winning medals.

In the men's 10-meter air pistol - SH1 final, Yang Chao and Huang Xing finished top two before India's Singhraj Adhana in third. Yang won gold with a Paralympic record of 237.9 points, while Huang was 0.4 points behind. Another ­Chinese shooter in the final, Lou Xiaolong, finished fourth.

In the men's individual compound - open, Chinese archer He Zihao defeated Iran's Ramezan Biabani 147-143 to win gold. He set a new Paralympic record of 148 points earlier Tuesday in the semifinals. He's compatriot Ai Xinliang rounded off the podium after defeating Slovak Marcel Pavlik in the bronze-medal match.

In the men's T1-2 time trial, cyclist Chen ­Jianxin finished first before Italy's Giorgio Farroni and Belgium's Tim Celen. 

In the women's shot put - F34, Zou Lijuan broke her own world and Paralympic records with a throw of 9.19 meters. She set the previous world record of 8.82 meters in August 2019 in Tianjin, and the Paralympic record of 8.75 meters in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics in 2016.

In the women's discus throw - F11, gold medalist Zhang Liangmin also refreshed the former world and Paralympic records, both held by ­herself, with a distance of 40.83 meters. The previous world record of 40.42 meters was set by her more than 10 years ago, in January 2011 in New Zealand's Christchurch. Her previous Paralympic record of 40.13 meters was achieved in the London Paralympics in 2012.

Zhang's compatriot Tang Hongxia missed out on a place on the podium after finishing fourth, despite a personal season best of 32.80 meters.

In the women's 1,500 meters - T54 final, Zhou Zhaoqian was first to cross the finish line with a personal best of 3 minutes and 27.63 seconds. World record holder Manuela Schaer of Switzerland finished second in 3:28.01.

In the men's shot put - F32, Liu Li claimed gold with a new world record of 12.97 meters. Chen bettered the previous world record - which was held by himself - by 0.92 meters.  

In the women's 400 meters - T37, Jiang ­Fenfen claimed Team China's eighth gold of the day. She posted an Asian record of 1:01.36.
