Douban, a Chinese review website of movies and television series, said it temporarily shut down its reply function for seven days because of technical reasons, after China's media regulator implemented a fierce crackdown against fanquan (fans' circle) chaos.
The announcement came after that users found on Monday night that they were unable to reply any content on the platform.
Douban said that the reply function will be back online by September 13.
On August 27, the Cyberspace Administration of China published a notice on its website asking provincial offices to increase their efforts to rectify the disorder created by fans' circles as an ongoing national effort to clamp down on unhealthy fan and idol culture.
China's social media, video and music platforms are acting quickly to remove entertainment content and close some fans' accounts.
Geese group, a discussion group for entertainment industry gossip on Douban, was shut down during the current crackdown. As of September 3, Douban has banned 990 accounts and deleted 22,238 posts deemed to be inappropriate under the new guidance addressing fanquan culture.
