Putian, a city in East China’s Fujian Province, reported six positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday night, who were three primary school students and three of their parents. Three areas related to them have been listed as medium-risk areas for COVID-19, with 27,000 residents starting home isolation.
The local government said at a news conference on Friday night that after two students who are brothers tested positive in a nucleic acid test for a primary school in Xianyou county, Putian on Friday, the local authorities immediately expanded the range of nucleic acid testing and then found another four people testing positive.
One of the four people, father to the brothers, had returned to China from Singapore on August 4, and had been under centralized quarantine for 21 days. On August 24, 20 days after he arrived in China, he still tested negative.
All six people have been transferred to designated hospitals, and three areas related to them have been listed as medium-risk areas for COVID-19. About 27,000 residents in these three areas have been asked to strictly enforce home isolation starting Friday, and 4,866 of them have taken nucleic acid tests.
There are currently four medium -risk areas for COVID-19 in China with the other one in border city Ruili, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, and zero high-risk areas.
The city of Guangzhou, South China’s Guangdong Province, also reported one locally transmitted asymptomatic case of COVID-19 on Friday.
