China remains as the world's largest manufacturing power, as its manufacturing sector value has ranked the first globally for 11 consecutive years since 2010, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Monday. 

Xiao Yaqing, minister of MIIT, outlined the nation's major breakthroughs and achievements in manufacturing development at a press briefing on Monday. 

China remains the world's major manufacturing power, as the total production value of China's manufacturing industry has ranked the first globally for 11 consecutive years. 

The country has been developing domestic information and communication industry and built the world's largest fiber-optic and mobile communications network to date, Xiao said.

China has built more than one million 5G base stations, accounting for more than 70 percent of the world's total, and 5G terminal users in China have exceeded 400 million who consist of the world's largest user group, said Xiao. 

From 2012 to 2020, China's industrial value-added grew from 20.9 trillion yuan ($3.24 trillion) to 31.3 trillion yuan, of which the manufacturing value-added grew from 16.98 trillion yuan to reach 26.6 trillion yuan.

The international competitiveness of some key manufacturing lines such as photovoltaic, new-energy vehicles, and mobile smartphones are leading other major economies in the world.

Meanwhile, China has achieved some breakthroughs in innovations in major industries, such as the completion of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system which has phased in a new era of independent global satellite navigation in the country.

Moreover, the acceleration and upgrading China's economic structure has made significant strides. High-tech manufacturing accounted for 15.1 percent of the added-value of industries above the designated size last year, up from 9.4 percent in 2012

Major achievements were made in cutting redundancy in the steel industry by 150 million tons, two years ahead of schedule.
