An affiliate of Caocao Chuxing, a ride-hailing app in China that has gained a lot of popularity after industry giant Didi was embroiled in data breach problems, has been fined 200,000 yuan ($30,971) after it was found to have left out Zangnan (southern Tibet), the Diaoyu Islands and a number of other regions from a country map of China in a magazine commercial.
According to a statement published by the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, Hangzhou Youxing Technology Co has violated laws and regulations over false content in advertising, guancha.cn reported on Thursday.
The advertisement in question, which was for the 2020 annual report of Caocao Chuxing, was found to have left out Aksai Chin (the intersection of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region), Zangnan (southern Tibet area), the Diaoyu Islands, Chiwei Yu, and a number of islands in the South China Sea, according to the local bureau of planning and natural resources in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province.
The magazine that published the advertisement has printed 40,000 copies, and it has so far recalled over 36,000 copies.
China's cyberspace regulator in July ordered app stores to remove the nation's most widely used ride-hailing app Didi Chuxing, due to reports of "serious violations of law and regulation" in the collection and use of personal information.
