The contrusction ceremony of the middle route of Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway
The construction of the middle route of a high-speed railway connecting Chegndu in Southest China's Sichuan Province and the city of Chongqing was announced on Sunday, the National Railway told Global Times on Sunday.
The high-speed railway will be operated at maximum speed among domestic high-speed rail routes after it was completed, and will also be built to meet the highest engineering benchmark.
The total length of the middle route of the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway is 292 kilometers and 85 percent of the route is bridges and tunnels. The line will include eight stops with six new stops along the route, and the full-speed of the high-speed railway train on the route can reach 350 kilometers per hour.
The new rail link has been backed with 69.3 billion yuan ($10.72 billion) of investment, which will be the railway that has top operation speed and construction standard nationwide, according to the National Railway.
Following a five-year construction period, local officials have stated that the route will play a vital role in boosting the economy of Chengdu and Chongqing, two central cities in Southwest China.
