Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will co-chair the 11th round of high-level strategic dialogue between China and the EU via video link with Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Tuesday.

It will come after Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng stressed on Monday that China and the EU should make full use of the high-level dialogue platform on climate to further deepen green cooperation between the two sides and enhance mutual understanding and trust in a meeting with executive vice president of the European Commission for the European Green Deal on Monday via video link.

Chinese experts said China and Europe should create "certainties" in more fields, including climate change cooperation, amid an uncertain international situation, through strengthened communication between the top officials from the two sides as the China-EU high-level strategic dialogue is due on Tuesday.

The two sides will exchange views on China-EU ties, dialogue and cooperation in various fields, and international and regional issues to promote the sound and stable development of China-EU ties and jointly address the global challenges, Chinese foreign ministry's spokesperson Hua Chunying announced on Monday. 

During the second High-level Environment and Climate Dialogue between China and the EU on Monday, Han said to Frans Timmermans, executive vice president of the European Commission for the European Green Deal that the two sides should practice multilateralism, help implement the Paris Agreement and inject confidence into global climate cooperation.

Climate change and green cooperation is a strategic point for China and the EU to align their policies and will serve as one of the main accelerators for China-EU relations in next stage, said Cui Hongjian, director of the Department of European Studies, China Institute of International Studies, noting that the subject will be a key part of Tuesday's dialogue, especially with the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference around the corner.

Cui told the Global Times on Monday that China and Europe should find and create more "certainties," in addition to green cooperation, to promote the development of its relations. 

He noted that China-EU relations have been faced with increasing uncertainties including political changes within Europe and the US' growing influence on the region with its latest ways of forming a trilateral security pact with the UK and Australia that targets China in the Indo-Pacific region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at the press briefing on Monday that it is necessary for China and the EU to conduct strategic communication and strengthen coordination and cooperation against the backdrop of rising instability and uncertainty in international situations.

The recent high-level meetings between top officials from the two sides are part of the efforts of the two to maintain the cooperation that already existed and explore new fields and institutions for more collaboration, Cui said. 

In meeting with Han, Timmermans said that the EU highly appreciates China's great efforts in tackling climate change and is ready to strengthen dialogue and coordination with China in the environment and climate fields.
