The production capacity of the J-20 stealth fighter jet can meet the demand of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, the aircraft's maker said on Wednesday at Airshow China 2021 in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province.

Responding to an inquiry from the Global Times concerning the production capacity of the J-20 at a press conference at the airshow, Wang Haitao, deputy designer of the aircraft, said that China's aviation industry can satisfy any level of demand from the PLA Air Force.

Yang Wei, chief designer of the J-20, revealed on Sunday in a separate press conference at the airshow that more than 15 J-20 fighter jets were in the air during the flight performance for the ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1 and that "there were a bunch more on the ground."

Quoting Yang, Wang said that, "he used the word 'bunch,' and this should indicate a lot."

The research and development period for aviation equipment is usually long, but now with advances in industrial technology, China has accelerated this process, Wang noted.

"Particularly for equipment like the J-20, we need to do it faster in all aspects, including designing, production, testing and crafting," Wang said.

Since the J-20 has entered military service, it has performed outstanding in terms of stealth, sensors and firepower, Wang said, noting that the J-20 will become even better in the future.
