People in China are expected to make 63.02 million trips by the country's railway, highway, waterway and aviation systems on Friday, the first day of the weeklong National Day holiday, a slight decrease of 3.1 percent from last year amid recent sporadic outbreaks.

The number of trips is down 30 percent compared with the corresponding period in 2019, data released by the Ministry of Transport showed.

In detail, railway trips on Friday are expected to decrease by 5.1 percent from one year earlier, highway trips to plunge 3.7 percent, while waterway trips are expected to fall by 4.6 percent, the data showed.

China has seen sporadic outbreaks of coronavirus in recent months, which has hindered people's willingness to travel. As of 6 am on Friday, the Chinese mainland has three high-risk areas, two in East China's Fujian provinces and one in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
