A 26-year-old tourist fell to her death in a lake because of a broken zip line wire while playing at a scenic spot in Linzhou, Central China's Henan Province, on Saturday.
An employee at the scenic spot told the media that the area had been closed since September 30 because of the high flow of water upstream and standing water on the roadside. Local officials said that the victim took a detour to take the mountain road to the scenic spot.
According to media reports, the deceased, surnamed Li, was a health care worker who was doing team activities with many of her peers.
A family member who traveled with Li questioned the safety qualifications of the project to the media, saying that after Li fell into the lake, there were not enough rescuers or life jackets at the scene, and Li was only retrieved three hours after she fell into the lake.
The person in charge of the scenic spot has been detained, and the project has stopped operating.
