More than 9,000 candidates have signed up for a position in the postal department in Ali prefecture, Southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region in the upcoming national civil servant examination, making it the current hottest ticket in the governmental official selection process.

As of press time, at least 9,403 candidates have signed up for the job, with 2,733 having passed the registration approval, the Global Times learned.

According to the official website, the job involves supervision and management of the postal work in Ali.

The location of the job will be in Gar county, where the Ali government is located. The county has an average altitude of 4,500 meters and a population of 31,052.

The sign-up system for the examination opened on September 15, and the written examination will take place on November 29. This year, the examination offered 16,745 positions in total. As of press time, more than 500,000 people have signed up.

However, the popularity of the postal position in Ali is not all about devotion to the construction of border regions. Many candidates signed up for the position just to try in the exam, as the position was the only one they could sign up for.

Media reports said that among all the positions provided, this was the only one that does not have any limitations in terms of candidates’ majors. It only requires a bachelor degree and does not require any grassroots work experience.

“As a design major, the post office position is the only one I can sign up for,” said a Sina Weibo user.

“I also signed up for the position, so that I could take part in the exam,” said another.

Last year, more than 1.5 million candidates signed up for the national civil servant examination to compete for 25,726 positions in different levels of government in China.
