After a gas explosion that occurred in a restaurant in Shenyang, Northeast China's Liaoning, Thursday killed five and injured 47, local authorities are examining 99 affected buildings, and allocating 1,858 households and 93 shops. Whether the explosion was caused by pipeline problems or liquefied gas tanks remains unknown.

Authorities in Shenyang employed professionals to examine whether a total of 99 affected buildings are still safe to live in. 86 buildings were examined, the remaining 13 are yet to be inspected, an official from Shenyang’s Heping district told Chinese media on Saturday night.

After the accident, the local government has established a joint investigation team to check and verify affected households and shops. So far 1,858 households that were affected by the explosion were checked, including damages and repair works. Compensation and repairs such as those for doors and windows will be next step.

Whether the explosion was triggered by pipeline problems or liquefied gas tanks remains unknown.

The gas explosion occurred on Thursday, causing five deaths and injuring 47. The windows of the opposite buildings were shattered following the huge explosion, and its roll-up door was deformed by the shockwave.

Prior to this accident, the building block had two other gas explosion accidents in May 2012 and March 2013.

Shenyang is in a process of renovating gas pipelines. The renovation is expected to be finished before November 10.
