China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has implemented a multi-pronged approach to ensure natural gas supply during coming winter season. CNOOC told the Global Times on Monday that the company has confirmed 26.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas that could be used during China's residential heating season.

Li Yong, manager of CNOOC, said the company had conducted various measurements including explorations of domestic sea and land natural gas resources, and import LNG (liquefied natural gas) from other countries to secure China's energy supply.

China's first self-operated gas field, CNOOC operated Shenhai Yihao (DeepSea No 1) with over 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserve entered operation in June 2021, with a maximum annual production capacity of 3 billion cubic meters.

In addition, CNOOC's four LNG receiving stations have the ability to hold 1.9 billion cubic meters of LNG, which can secure and adjust the LNG supply during extreme weather.

As one of major LNG importers of China, CNOOC also imported LNG to ease domestic power shortage. CNOOC in September signed a long-term contract with Qatar Petroleum to secure annual 3.5 million tons of imported LNG in next 15 years. Plus another long-term contract with Petroliam Nasional Berhad with 2 million LNG supply per year, China's natural gas supply is further secured. Both contracts will be implemented from January 2022.

CNOOC said the company's sales volume during January to September this year, reached 33.7 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent. The company has also confirmed 18.45 million cubic meters of imported LNG used for heating in winter.
