Columbia
Shanghai's market regulator has fined US outdoor clothing brand Columbia 10,000 yuan ($1,562) for false advertising, according to online business information platform Tianyancha.
Tianyancha shows that the penalty was issued on October 11 by Shanghai market regulator. The announcement from the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System showed that two consumers made complaints about Columbia.
One consumer suggested that the fillers percentage of a Columbia down jacket sold from its official online store were different from what was advertised. Another consumer suggested that a Columbia down jacket used goose down as its filler instead of duck down as advertised.
Following inspection by market regulators, the two cases were proved accurate. The market regulator ordered the company to reimburse the two consumers for the defective goods and pay compensation. As the overall illegal gains of selling its problematic down jackets were difficult to be calculated, Shanghai Market Regulator decided to penalize Columbia 10,000 yuan.
Columbia was not the only foreign clothing brand that was penalized due to false advertising. Canadian clothing brand Canada Goose was fined 450,000 yuan in September by Shanghai Market regulator for inaccurate claims found in its commercials.
