Beijing on Monday asked government-related institutions as well as state-owned enterprises and institutions to cut power use and promote energy saving across Beijing Municipality.
The Beijing authorities released the implementation plan on Monday to further strengthen energy saving, with government-related institutions set to bear the brunt with specific requirements in four aspects: indoor temperature control, office equipment usage, water boiler operation and transportation.
Government-related institutions must stick to indoor temperature standards, provide no heating in underground garages and turn off air conditioners before leaving the office.
Computer monitors, printers and routers in the offices should also be turned off when not in use. Water boiler use should be restricted and public transportation should be used when going on official business.
The cuts in power use are part of China’s campaign to avoid power shortages and cut emissions nationwide.
