China delivered 569 million packages on Tuesday, a year-on-year increase of 28.54 percent, according to data released by the State Post Bureau, with this year’s Double 11 online shopping festival having started on Monday.
The data showed that in both East China’s Zhejiang Province and South China's Guangdong Province, more than 100 million packages were delivered.
An employee at Shentong Express said that during the shopping festival, the number of pre-sale packages with speedy delivery services increased by nearly 100 percent year-on-year, and the number of cities covered by the service also increased from 162 last year to nearly 300 this year.
The logistics platform Cainiao, together with Tmall, launched packaging recycling projects in 10,000 stations, in order to promote green development of the express industry.
Due to recent epidemic flare-ups across the country, postal and courier companies are strengthening regulations for the prevention and control of COVID-19 while making every effort to ensure the smooth flow of deliveries during the peak season. For instance, JD Logistics required all vehicles and goods to undergo strict disinfection.
According to the State Post Bureau, the express sector is required to coordinate epidemic prevention and control with industry development, in order to ensure smooth deliveries as well as maintaining safety in the peak season.
