About the poet
Bai Juyi, a renowned Chinese poet and politician of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Bai wrote about his everyday life experiences. The style of his poems is fluid and engages Asian philosophical thinking, which makes them also popular in Japan and South Korea.
About the translator
Born in Nanchang in East China's Jiangxi Province, Xu Yuanchong was a professor of literary translation at Peking University. He won the Translators Association of China's lifetime Achievement Award in Translation in 2010.
