China and the US are maintaining close communication on arrangements for President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden's meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a routine press conference on Friday.
Since the beginning of this year, President Xi has held two phone conversations with Biden at the US' invitation, and the two leaders agreed to maintain regular communication through various ways, Wang said.
Currently, China and the US are maintaining close communication on detailed arrangements for the top leaders' meeting and we hope the US will meet China halfway and jointly work with China to promote a successful meeting and push bilateral relations back on the right track, Wang said.
US media reported that Xi and Biden are expected to hold a virtual meeting on Monday, citing sources. China has yet to formally confirm the virtual meeting and the time.
In responding to foreign media's reports that Chinese leaders may invite US President Joe Biden to attend the Beijing Winter Olympic Games in February, Wang declined to comment.
