China will work with the international community to help restore Myanmar's social stability and play a constructive role in helping it resume its democratic transformation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said during Tuesday's regular press briefing.
China is Myanmar's friendly neighbor and supports Myanmar in seeking a political solution within the constitutional and legal framework through dialogue and consultation, Zhao said.
Spokesperson Zhao made the remarks when asked to comment on Special Envoy for Asian Affairs Sun Guoxiang's recent visit to Myanmar.
Sun visited Myanmar on November 15. During the visit, Sun met with Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin and Union Minister for the Union Government Office Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
China will actively promote Myanmar's cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in implementing the five-point consensus on Myanmar as it is a member of the ASEAN family, Zhao said.
China appreciates Myanmar's active role as the country coordinator of China-ASEAN relations, and will promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, according to Zhao. China will work with Myanmar to continue promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations.
