The details about to continue the successful operation of the Yunding Ski Resort after the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games has been revealed.
The resort, located in Olympic host city Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei Province can provide services for ski lovers among the general public after the Games, and the difficult ski runs built for professional athletes will be revamped to cater to a broader range of abilities.
"Skiing is my favorite hobby. It would be a dream come true for me if my parents could take me there during winter breaks so I can practice what I love," Jianing, a 10-year-old girl who is a passionate young skier in Beijing, told the Global Times on Thursday.
The Yunding Ski Resort is the only Winter Games competition venue that was built upon on an existing ski resort. A total of 20 gold medals will be up for grabs at the venue during the Games.
Freestyle skiing and snowboarding are the two major competition events set to be held at the resort during the 2022 Winter Games. Unlike alpine skiing, which has strict demands in terms of the height and length of the slope, these two particular sports are mostly carried out at existing ski resorts.
Six tracks for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games were modified from four previously existing tracks.
Additionally, the resort was designed to include a smart operation management system. According to Li Congming, vice head of the Hebei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the venue has facilities such as contactless guest rooms, smart recognition door locks, and is the first ski resort in China that is able to manage passenger flow data in real time using holographic projections.
These facilities have a particular focus on the prevention of COVID-19.
After the Olympic Winter Games, the Yunding Ski Resort will host national and international competitions as well as carry out a tourism plan to attract more winter sports enthusiasts.
