China and India held a virtual meeting on the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on border affairs on Thursday, in which they agreed to consolidate the disengagement results, and strictly abide by bilateral agreements and consensus, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a press release.
The two countries are also preparing for the 14th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting, according to the press release.
The meeting was co-chaired by Hong Liang, Director General of the Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China and Naveen Srivastava, Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. Representatives from the authorities of foreign affairs, national defense and immigration of the two sides attended the meeting.
The two sides will continue to push for the further easing of the border situation and gradually shift from emergency response to regular management and control as soon as possible, in line with the spirit of consensus reached during the meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries in Dushanbe.
The two sides had frank and in-depth exchanges of views on the recent situation in the border regions and agreed to strictly abide by the agreements and the relevant consensus reached by the two sides to avoid a recurrence of border-related incidents.
China and India agreed to maintain dialogue and communication via diplomatic and military channels, and will actively prepare for the 14th round of talks at the corps commander level to make efforts to resolve any remaining issues in the western sector of the boundary between China and India.
Before the meeting, foreign ministers of the two countries met in Dushanbe on July 14. The two sides also held the 22nd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs on June 25.
