Police in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei Province, have detained a "suicidal" woman who threatened to jump into a river and end her life while the true aim was to draw fans online.

The woman, found during police patrol, was livestreaming her suicide stunt by a bridge. There were nearly 1,100 people watching the hour-long broadcast, many of whom were trying to get her back over the edge, while others scorned her and heckled the "suicide."

However, the camgirl did not truly intend to commit suicide but to attract attention from internet users on social media, and she thought she had come up with a clever way to deceive the audience.

Her plan was, "unfortunately," interrupted when she bumped into the police just as she was feeling smug for drawing people's attention.

What she didn't know was that many people, including the police, were worried about her safety, let alone how grisly the "suicide livestreaming" would be and also the negative effects it could have on the masses.

At the moment, the woman is being held under administrative detention by local police on suspicion of disturbing public order.
