Shanghai reported two new local COVID-19 cases on Thursday, about one week after previous local cases were found, Shanghai authorities announced on Thursday, noting that they have no relation with the earlier cases so far.
The two cases are a mother, 74 and a daughter, 44, who had both traveled by railway from other provinces, and both cases had taken two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, according to the authorities.
A total of 146 close contacts have been put under medical observation, among whom 64 have returned negative COVID-19 nucleic acid tests, and the rest are undergoing tests, according to the authorities.
Over 20 hospitals suspended out-patient and emergency medical services in Shanghai on November 26 following three confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases on November 25. The municipal health authority then confirmed that this move was for epidemic prevention and screening and there are no nosocomial infections.
As of Wednesday, more than 46.42 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Shanghai and 23.22 million people have been inoculated, of whom 21.42 million people have completed their whole process of inoculation, Shanghai authorities said at Thursday's press briefing.
Booster vaccination has been fully launched since November 1 this year and 2.98 million people have received booster shots, said the authorities.
The residential community the two confirmed cases lived in was classified as a medium-risk area for COVID-19, and the classification of other regions in the city has not been changed.
A total of 1,157 environmental samples were collected and 7 of them tested positive for coronavirus, which were from the patients' home. So far 671 of the samples returned negative reports and the rest are undergoing tests.
