Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for jointly resisting actions that undermine regional peace, stability and prosperity at a press conference after his meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah on Saturday.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN. Bilateral relations have always played a leading and exemplary role in regional cooperation, setting the most dynamic, fruitful and promising model for regional cooperation, Wang said. China and ASEAN officially announced the establishment of a?China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership two weeks ago, which has brought new major opportunities for the development of China-ASEAN relations.
Wang stressed that the current regional situation is showing two completely different trends: The first is the success of China-ASEAN relations, which focuses on enhancing mutual trust, coordination and cooperation and seeking common prosperity. This represents the trend of the times, serves the common interests of all countries and is undoubtedly on the right side of history. The other is to incite ideological confrontation, create estrangement and division, promote "decoupling," and even attempt to provoke a new "cold war" and drag countries in the region into confrontation. This is clearly going against the tide of history.
Wang said China believes countries should be united rather than divided, inclusive rather than exclusive, pursue a win-win agreement rather than a monopolistic one, and champion cooperation rather than confrontation. He added that all countries in the region should be vigilant and jointly resist actions that undermine regional peace, stability and prosperity.
