The shooting suspect surnamed Huang from the island of Taiwan will soon finish his quarantine in Xiamen city, East China's Fujian Province, and he will be sent back to the island, said the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

On November 23, local Taiwan media reported that a man surnamed Huang shot another man to death and fled to Xiamen by taking flight MF888 of Xiamen Airlines on November 22. Huang was quarantined for coronavirus prevention and control in Xiamen.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson of the office, said at the press conference on Tuesday that the public security department of Xiamen launched an investigation immediately after learning of the incident. The suspect, surnamed Huang, confessed to shooting the man who was surnamed He in New Taipei City.

In order to crack down on violent crimes, safeguard the safety of people across the Taiwan Straits and maintain the order of cross-Strait exchanges, Xiamen public security authorities decided to send the suspect back to the Taiwan island, Ma said.

According to local Taiwan media, the Criminal Investigation Bureau on the island expressed thanks to the relevant authorities in the mainland for the assistance, saying relevant procedures are underway.

Chinese mainland and Taiwan island signed the Cross-Strait Joint Crime-Fighting and Judicial Mutual Assistance Agreement in 2009, and the mainland has repatriated wanted criminals to the island in the past based in accordance with the pact, media reported.
