Hong Kong security chief branded secessionist and fugitive Nathan Law as a coward who is spreading political lies and not fit to represent Hong Kong.
In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday night, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung described Law as a "runaway anti-China and anti-Hong Kong element" and accused him of "spreading political lies" about the city and the country.
Tang's online statement was posted after Law said he was invited by the US to attend the so-called summit for democracy scheduled this week.
"Law intends to attend what the US plotted as an anti-China conference disguised as something democratic. He is there to spread political lies and make comments slandering the central and SAR governments," Tang wrote, adding that he feels "extremely furious" about the matter.
Tang also said Law's behavior of participating in riots and fleeing Hong Kong was despicable, and that his repeated secessionist remarks exposed his evil intention. The security chief said that the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will hold to account those who smear Hong Kong and run away to act as agents of foreign countries.
Hong Kong's Commissioner of Police Raymond Siu Chak-yee also said that Law is a fugitive, fleeing Hong Kong is a cowardice move, and he has no right of representing any Hong Kong people. Siu urged Law to come back to Hong Kong to shoulder the consequences of breaking the law.
Siu pointed out that Law ran away before the national security law for Hong Kong took effect and left those who took him as brothers to shoulder the consequences. Such a person has no right to speak about human rights, law, or democracy, said Siu.
Local newspaper Takungpao also published a report on Wednesday, condemning Law's willingness to serve as the US vassal, saying that he has no right to represent Hong Kong.
