From hill to hill no bird in flight;

From path to path no man in sight.

A lonely fisherman afloat

Is fishing snow in lonely boat.

About the poet 

Liu Zongyuan, is a Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet who is also one of the most well-known thinkers who was keen on writing prose and contributing to ancient Chinese philosophy.

About the translator 

Xu Yuanchong (1921-2021) was born in Nanchang in East China's Jiangxi Province. He was a professor of literary translation at Peking University.
