This year marks the 35th year of the continuous and committed development of DHL Express in Chinese market.

DHL Express is the first major international express service provider entering Chinese market. In 1986, DHL and China National Foreign Trade Transportation (Group) Corporation established DHL-Sinotrans, a 50/50 jointed venture, focusing on Time Definite International service and world express services of documents and parcels.

Since its founding, DHL-Sinotrans has been actively contributing to the development of China's international express industry. It has witnessed, participated in, and benefited from the economic booms and industrial transformation in China while growing along with the local market.

"DHL-Sinotrans is one another paradigm of Sino-German cooperation, " says Dongming Wu, Managing Director of DHL-Sinotrans and CEO of DHL Express China. "The success of the joint venture cannot be achieved without the broad market opportunities in China and the close and win-win cooperation between shareholders from both sides. Today, China is entering a new era of enhanced economic development. The continuous opening-up will ultimately lead to improved business environment, and the focus on sustainable development of the Chinese economy will greatly benefit the international trade. DHL-Sinotrans will continue to live the commitment of connecting people and improving lives to achieve higher-quality and sustainable growth in China."

Over the past 35 years, DHL has invested more than 10 billion yuan in China for infrastructure and logistics network construction. To date, DHL-Sinotrans has successfully established a vast international express delivery service network in China, covering 80% of China's populous and economic centers. Every day, nearly 8,000 employees, well-versed in both domestic and international courier practices, are committed to serving  the customers nationwide.

As a responsible corporate citizen, DHL-Sinotrans has also adopted a number of measures to help improve the sustainability of its services and develop green logistics, including infrastructure retrofitting, energy management of assembly lines, transportation and services, etc.

For example, DHL-Sinotrans started electrifying the pickup and last mile delivery fleet back in 2018. The years of continuous investment have seen a substantial result. Currently, 18% of  last mile delivery has been electrified, and this year the carbon efficiency for pickup and delivery has achieved an increase of 15.7% year on year.

Looking into the future, Chinese economy is transitioning to domestic demand. With the domestic market as the mainstay, China continues to boost high-level opening-up and will step up the imports of high-quality foreign products and services. As the logistics company for the world, DHL Express will continue to invest in Chinese market to keep its business in China growing, further accelerate decarbonization, and promote the trade flow connecting China and the rest of the world.
