The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held a flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning marking the 22nd anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. A delegation of mainland Olympians attended the ceremony.
On the day of the anniversary, a flag-raising ceremony at Golden Lotus Square was held. The Olympians delegation included 29 athletes and three coaches from 12 sporting events who started their three-day visit to the SAR by attending the ceremony.
At a banquet on Sunday evening, Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR government, expressed her hope that athletes and youth from Macao can learn from the examples set by mainland Olympians and make unremitting efforts on their own future.
Yang Ning, who heads the delegation, said the General Administration of Sport will continue to strengthen exchange and cooperation between the mainland and Macao and further promote the development of sports in both sides.
Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng will travel to Beijing to report to the state leaders on the work of the SAR in the past year and key policies for the next year from Tuesday to Friday. Ho will also visit ministries and commissions during his visit to Beijing.
