China and Morocco signed a cooperation plan on Wednesday to promote the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), making Morocco the first country in North Africa to sign a BRI cooperation plan with China, China's top economic planner said on its official WeChat account.
Ning Jizhe, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), signed the cooperation plan with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Wednesday, the NDRC announced.
Morocco is the first country in North Africa that has signed a BRI cooperation plan with China which clearly depicts a road map for the future of bilateral cooperation to promote BRI construction.
The plan outlines the principles for cooperation, key tasks and coordination mechanisms which will further deepen practical cooperation in a variety of fields, including infrastructure construction, logistics, trade, investment, agriculture, fishing and other fields, while further promoting the BRI construction with already signed economic and strategic plans.
Official data show that trade between China and Morocco in 2020 reached $4.76 billion, an increase of 2.1 percent year-on-year.
