China's 26-year-old freestyle skier Wang Xindi pinned down a gold medal for the men's aerials event during the Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International Ski World Cup at Deer Valley Resort, the US, on Wednesday.

Besides Wang's gold, Team China swept the men's aerial podium after another two Chinese skiers, Yang Longxiao and Sun Jiaxu, secured second and third in the event.

By demonstrating his skills with a Double Full Full Full, Wang scored a total of 122.62 points, sending him straight to the top of the World Cup podium.

This win marks the second World Cup of the freestyle skier's career following his triumph at the 2018-19 FIS freestyle ski aerials World Cup at Shimao Lotus Mountain, China, in 2019.

Excited by Wang's success, winter sports fans in China congratulated the three skiers on the country's Twitter-like platform Sina Weibo.

The men's aerials team were not the only winners. China's women's aerials team - which includes veteran athlete Xu Mengtao and emerging star Kong Fanyu, who won a silver medal during the women's aerials that same day - also increased netizens' confidence in their Olympic potential.

Xu has also performed well during the season, especially at the Aerials World Cup in Ruka in December 2021 in Finland. She not only won gold in the Mixed Aerials Team event, but also another gold during the women's individual competition, which marked her first personal championship of the 2021 season.

Some netizens on Sina Weibo said that they see huge potential for both the men's and women's teams when it comes to winning medals at the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

"Look at them, they are calm and competitive. This shows that these athletes are in excellent condition. I believe in them so much," posted one netizen.

The freestyle skiing aerials has always been a winter sport event in which China has shown great strength and potential.

Sixteen years ago, Chinese athlete Han Xiaopeng won the men's aerial skills championship at the Turin Winter Olympics in Italy. He was also the first Chinese male athlete to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics.
