China has become the world leader in applying high-tech means into its eco development, with smarter 5G technology playing a significant role in the further reduction of energy consumption, which has been showed in the preparation period of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, and will further serve Chinas carbon reduction goals.
Athletes and audience will be provided with a series of smart services thanks to advanced 5G support at the National Alpine Skiing Centre in Yanqing district, one of the main venues of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The services include smart COVID-19 prevention, real-time weather monitoring, 5G broadcasting packages, material management, and 5G first aid, which have maximized 5G capabilities.
In order to serve the Olympics and find future communication solutions for the capital city, China Unicom Beijing has been setting up 5G coverage in smart solutions in the Yanqing Olympic venue and rural areas in Beijing.
"5G is the most energy-efficient wireless communication technology at present. It has been integrated with many industries to promote the green transformation of society," Devin Duan, Vice President of Huawei's SRAN Product Line, told the Global Times.
The specially-designed 5G bullet train to service the Winter Olympics was showcased on January 6, and is aimed to connect different venues and media during the event. Each train carriage is equipped with 5G base stations which could ensure a stable communication to information in high-speed motion, media reported.
Smart 5G has been applied not only in the scenario of the Olympics, but also in many aspects in China. Moreover, Chinese technology companies such as Huawei have embarked on the construction and upgrade of green and smart 5G networks, which are also being rolled out around the world. It is characterized by high integration of equipment, extremely simplified sites, intelligent networks, and whole environmentally friendly life cycle.
Studies showed that the integration and innovation between 5G technology and other industries has been promoting carbon emission reduction through lifting production efficiency and affecting people's lifestyles. For every unit of carbon emission generated by communications, the entire society can be leveraged to reduce carbon emissions by 10 units, the Global Times learned from a seminar themed around green new infrastructures in Beijing recently.
In the future, the mobile communication network should shift from energy consumption to energy efficiency, taking into account both performance and energy saving, and this should also be used to measure green mobile networks, Duan said.
China vowed to realize its carbon peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
