Kenya will soon commence exporting avocado to China amid growing bilateral trade between the two countries, an executive said.
Okisegere Ojepat, the chief executive officer of the Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya (FPC Kenya) said on Tuesday at a briefing in Nairobi that discussions are ongoing to approve export of avocado to China.
Ojepat said that Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service and its Chinese counterpart is expected to conduct inspection and address some technical issues to ensure that avocado meant for export meet quality and safety threshold.
"We are currently selling frozen avocados to the Chinese market and this new agreement is most welcomed as it will help increase the country's export earnings," said Ojepat.
