I'd live far from the crowded market town,

and near green hills and blue rills up and down.

Cultivated into a wild man with hair grey,

I'd get rid of modern official way,

And learn to sing a shepherd's or woodman's song.

Drunk all day long,

Beside my earthenwares,

I would not fall into the mundane snares.

沉醉东风·归田

远城市人稠物穰,

近村居水色山光。

熏陶成野叟情,

铲削去时官样,

演习会牧歌樵唱。

老瓦盆边醉几场,

不撞入天罗地网。

About the poet 

Wang Yuanheng was a Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) poet who created many poems that show his pursuit of nature and idyllic lifestyles.

About the translator 

Xu Yuanchong (1921-2021) was born in Nanchang in East China's Jiangxi Province. He was a professor of literary translation at Peking University.
