The Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games announced on Tuesday that Lu Chuan, a critically acclaimed director in China, was selected as the chief director of the official film of the Winter Olympic Games.

"Being the chief director of the Beijing 2022 official film is a great and challenging job because the more you know about how China applied for hosting the event and the great effort the Chinese government and people have made amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the deeper the inspiration you feel,'' said Lu. 

The film aims to showcase the most inspiring and exciting moments of the Games, as well as the touching stories behind the historically precious occasion as Beijing becomes the first city to host both the Summer and Winter editions of the Olympics, Lu added.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) requires every host city to make an official film of the Olympic Games. Currently there are more than 40 in total.

The Beijing 2022 official film will show how China has fulfilled every promise it made when applying for the Games, overcoming various difficulties including the COVID-19 pandemic to prepare and host the event, with esteemed film director Zhang Yimou serving as the chief supervisor under the guide of renowned Chinese artist Zhang Heping. 

Having confirmed the script content and finished the filming of pre-event organizing team and the life and test matches of the athletes, the team is ready to shoot the scenes during the games and plans to complete all the filming by the end of June 2022. The film is planned to debut this year.
