Bilibili, one of China's leading video-sharing platforms, said it has established a special group to support the family of the deceased employee, and the company pledged to increase recruitments to relieve the work load of its employees.
The company is facing growing criticism over the death of an employee in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province. The company earlier denied claims that excessive overtime led to the death.
In a statement issued on Tuesday night Bilibili said the employee known as "musemuxin"was a content reviewer, responsible for auditing content released on the platform. He was on duty during the Spring Festival holiday, working 8 hours a day during with 5-day work week. At 5 pm, February 4, his colleagues called him after he didn't show up for work, only to be told he was in hospital. He died from a cerebral hemorrhage later that day.
Bilibili said it has established a support group lead by a vice president of the company to visit the family members of the employee on Tuesday and reached an agreement with the family on the compensation.
The company has also announced to recruit 1,000 additional content reviewers and pay more attention to work life balance.
