Chinese netizens congratulated Chinese skiing star Gu Ailing after she qualified for the women's freeski slopestyle finals with the third highest score (79.38) after two qualification rounds on Monday. Her strong mental fortitude and excellent performance during the event have won her a flood of compliments from netizens, many of whom have praised her "strong heart."

The hashtag "Gu Ailing scored 79.83 in second run" quickly topped the trending list on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo after the event with 360 million views.

Many Chinese netizens congratulated the rising idol while expressing admiration for the star's positive attitude during the competition on Monday.

In the first qualification round, Gu ranked at the 11th place by scoring 57.28. However, she did not seem to let the score get her down as she sent a Valentine's Day wish on Instagram: "Send me kisses a good cause this Valentine's Day."

Seeing her comments on social media, some netizens joked that "if your boyfriend does not respond to your message and later says he was busy, you can break up with him and say, 'Were you busier than Gu Ailing at the Olympics?'"

In the second round, Gu did not reduce the difficulty of her set to keep her rank safe but rather chose to continue challenging herself. Despite the high tension, she was seen happily eating a fried cake with leek fillings while waiting for the score for her second run. In the end, she earned a high score of 79.38, ranking third in the qualifications.

"While I was nervously waiting the results of the second run, she was eating! She is No.1 in handling pressure," one Chinese netizen wrote on Sina Weibo.

"The 'Frog Princess' is so, so calm. She really has a big heart," another netizen wrote.

Meanwhile, the skier's red uniform decorated with a dragon also becomes a hot topic on social media.

The qualifications were initially set for Sunday, but heavy snowfall in Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei Province forced organizers to postpone the events. On Monday, the sun returned although temperatures dropped to -20 C.
