The bilateral trade between China and Mexico hit a record high in 2021, reaching $86.6 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 41.9 percent, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said on Thursday.
Gao Feng, a spokesperson from MOFCOM said on Thursday at a press briefing that the bilateral trade has yielded fruitful results especially after the bilateral relations entering the fast lane after establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013.
Mexico is the second largest trading partner of China in Latin America, and China is the second largest trading partner of Mexico in the world.
Mexico is an important project contracting market and investment destination for Chinese investors in Latin America, while the cooperation between the two sides is progressing in transportation, infrastructure, processing and manufacturing industry, telecommunications and energy, said Gao.
He also stressed that the cooperation between China and Mexico in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic has been effective, and China has provided full support for the procurement of vaccines and anti-epidemic materials for Mexico.
Moving forward, Gao said that China will take the 50th anniversary as an opportunity to continue working with Mexico to promote cooperation in emerging industries such as green development, digital economy and electric vehicles, while further deepening bilateral trade and investment, in addition to strengthening regional and multilateral cooperation.
The two nations' top leaders stressed the importance to continuously deepening the bilateral cooperation in various fields when exchanging congratulatory messages to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation earlier this week.
