In connection with the final day of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, the Lahore-based Institute of International Relations and Media Research (IIRMR) held a "Digital Poster Competition" that lasted from February 8 to 18. The competition aimed to inform Pakistani youth about China's ability to hold mega international sports events.
A number of Pakistanis from throughout society in all four provinces submitted in their entries, pitching their digital understanding to convey the theme "Together for a Shared Future."
The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad and the Chinese Consulate in Lahore collaborated with IIRMR to organize the competition.
Chinese embassy political section head Bao Zhong termed the competition a healthy exercise that helped Pakistan youth to know the Chinese spirit and the significance of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
She expressed these views at the online conclusion ceremony of the Digital Poster Competition. Winners were given cash awards and exclusive gifts.
She lauded the efforts of IIRMR and the Chinese Consulate in Lahore for conducting the competition in a successful manner. She said that with developed and developing countries, grappling to meet the climate targets and the sustainable development goals amid the perilous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, China seized an opportunity to inspire the world by conducting Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. She gave a big shout-out to winners and all participants. She hoped that IIRMR would continue to conduct such productive events for fostering China-Pakistan friendliness.
Acting Chinese Consulate General for Lahore Peng Zhengwu said that the Chinese Consulate is diversifying cooperation with IIRMR to deepen all avenues of Pakistan-China relations.
He said, "Our cooperation and partnership with IIRMR is going a long way to achieve China-Pakistan ambitions rooted in the sense of 'Together for a Shared Future'."
He wished the best of luck to all winners and applauded their ingenuity and digital mastery to share their insight on the Beijing Winter Olympics because the Games have created a new chapter in the history of international sports, and undoubtedly, the Games made a greater contribution to the Olympic movement and to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, he said.

IIRMR Chairman Muhammad Mehdi and President Yasir Habib Khan praised the participants of the competition saying it is heartening to know that digital inventiveness among youth on the theme of "Together for a Shared Future" manifested how they feel about China and the Winter Olympics.
"Sport is a universal language. It neither should be subject to any discrimination nor should be hostage to politicization," they added.
On the successful conduction of the Digital Poster Competition, China Media Group Urdu Service Head Zhao Qiao said such events will continue to cozy up relations between China and Pakistan. With an effective people-centered development approach, the Chinese government has forged ahead in organizing Beijing Winter Olympics as a catalyst to stimulate interest in the Winter Games which in turn increased the number of participants for winter sports in the country - bringing together people from diverse cultures and promoting peace and unity.
"These set goals have been realized perfectly in the Winter Olympics 2022 as China implemented germane measures and constructed high-quality infrastructure which played its role in attaining sustainable solutions, diminishing inequality, generating new job opportunities, protecting the environment, fostering inclusive economic growth and eliminating poverty in the country," she added.
Digby Wren, visiting international relations scholar in Deakin University in Australia and Sichuan Normal University in China gave a thumbs-up to IIRMR for making things happen saying conduction of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games on international standards is a manifestation of the fact that China is a responsible global leader knowing well how to raise the bar for others.
