Security guards and couriers are among the top 10 positions that are seeing labor shortages in China, according to a list released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Tuesday.

The list included the top 100 positions affected by labor shortages in the fourth quarter of 2021. The positions of marketing staff, restaurant waiters, shop assistants, housekeepers, security guards, customer service staff and couriers are high on the list.

Compared with the third quarter of 2021, the list reflects a continued labor shortage in the manufacturing industry and a widening gap in the smart engineering sector.

Of the 100 occupations on the list, 43 are in the manufacturing sector. The sector has been struggling to keep up with strong demand, with auto parts, trim and maintenance newly entering the rankings.

In the field of intelligent manufacturing, a shortage of multi-process machine tool operators and industrial robot system operators has become more pronounced.
