Beijing on Wednesday reported five more COVID-19 infections in Haidian and Chaoyang districts, after seven were reported on Tuesday, and city officials reiterated that people from medium- and high-risk areas should not travel to the capital city.
The five cases, four confirmed patients and one silent carrier, are all close contacts of previously detected infections. One of the infections is a baby.
The infections of multiple transmission chains sound an alarm for the control work, showing that vigilance should not be loosened, Xu Hejian, a spokesperson for the municipal government, said at Wednesday's press conference on epidemic control.
People from medium- and high-risk areas should not enter or return to Beijing, according to the press conference. On the previous day, city officials advised Beijing residents to stay put and avoid traveling.
Beijing now requires all inbound travelers to hold a negative nucleic acid test valid within 48 hours and a green code, and suggested that people to take another test within 72 hours after their arrival.
The city government also asks people who have been to the same places as the infected cases to report their situations to communities and take measures accordingly.
Since March, multiple Chinese cities have reported a COVID-19 resurgence, and total domestically transmitted cases have topped 500, many of which were asymptomatic infections, for three consecutive days.
The new infections involved more than a dozen provincial-level regions.
