DREAMING OF THE SOUTHERN SHORE

Fair southern shore, with scenes I did adore.

At sunrise riverside flowers redder than fire;

In spring green waves grew as blue as sapphire.

How could I not admire?


忆江南

江南好,风景旧曾谙。

日出江花红胜火,春来江水绿如蓝。

能不忆江南？

About the poet 

Bai Juyi was a renowned Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet known for his realistic art style. Many of Bai's works concern his career or are related to his observations about everyday life.

About the translator 

Xu Yuanchong (1921-2021) was born in Nanchang in East China's Jiangxi Province. He was a professor of literary translation at Peking University.
