A case of selling self-made Starbucks coffees was revealed on Monday, a day before 2022's World Consumer Rights Day.

The market supervision administrations in Mianyang, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, got public reports in January that someone made fake Starbucks coffees in a rental apartment in a residential compound and sold them to consumers through food delivery platforms.

The marketer supervisors went to the residential compound and ran into a delivery man surnamed Kong, who was delivering a cup of coffee in the paper cup and bag labeled as "Starbucks Coffee."

The supervisors later found the rental apartment where the coffee was made and identified Kong as the person in charge of coffee production. According to Kong, he runs two shops on food delivery platforms which claim to buy coffee from Starbucks shops and deliver it to customers.

While charging the consumers the real price of Starbucks coffee, Kong actually made the drinking by himself in the apartment and had finished 729 orders, of which the illegal money reached 40,000 yuan($6,300).

The supervisors also confirmed with Starbucks Coffee that Kong didn't get the brand's licensing. Without food distribution and business licenses, supervisors stopped Kong's illegal coffee making by confiscating the production tools and raw materials, warning customers to choose regular shops for products and services.
