Two branches of convenience chain-store 7-eleven and Lawson in Beijing have been investigated and since closed down for rectification after they were caught allegedly selling expired food as China tightens regulation on food safety.

Lawson has vowed to tighten monitoring after one of its locations in Chaoyang district, Beijing was caught selling expired steamed buns and boiled skewer sticks.

Lawson said through its official WeChat account for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region on Tuesday that it has dispatched a quality management team to conduct thorough check to all of its stores in the region and will take a zero tolerance approach to any violations to ensure no similar situation has occurred in other stores.

A 7-eleven store in Tongzhou district, Beijing was also found to have sold expired food according to a notice issued by local market supervision authorities on Tuesday. The store was suspended from operation and investigated under food safety laws.
