The Mentougou district, a western suburb of Beijing, has always been one of the top tourist hotspots when the spring outing season came to involve fun activities such as the flower viewing and "red culture" touring.

There are many different touring routes that have been recommended by the Culture and Tourism Bureau of the Mentougou district. The routes have different themes that involve both culture and nature-inspired experiences, some focus on farming and ecological activities.

The diversity of the routes caters to the needs of various tourists. Visitors have the chance to see beautiful and unique flowers and taste local delicacies coupled with an in-depth overnight experience. All of those activities are designed to be family-friendly.

There are touring routes designed for both one-day and overnight trips. The most concise one-day visiting route includes two major stops that are at the Gushancun Village and Jingxi ancient road. The road features several interesting stories including about the beacon fire ignited in the remote ancient times.

It was a large network that made the district accessible from all directions. The route was also used to transport general goods and military goods. Visitors will get a chance to experience the ancient road culture related sceneries and also get to know some farming traditions when visiting the Gushancun Village.

There was another route that makes a perfect one-day trip plan with six stops. By visiting the Jiangoucun Village, visitors can taste a famous meal made of roses. And at the Liangbo martyrs site, visitors can have some red culture experiences. Apart from these classic scenic spots that have been mentioned in the two one-day visiting package, there are other good spots in the district such as the Shenquanxia scenic area, which is a known hiking wonderland.

There are two major things one shouldn't miss out when taking an in-depth journey to the Mentougou district. The first is to visit the Tanzhe temple. It's a Buddhist temple that was built around 1,700 years ago. Tourists from all over the country come to visit every year. The second is to stay at the homely designed local inns. These inns have delicious local dishes such as fried wild vegetables and organic chicken stew.

Flower viewing in the spring time is an activity liked by many tourists in China. There are two magnolia trees in the Tanzhe temple that are unique. These trees are covered in white and purple colors that they gradually transitioning into from head to the bottom when they're in full bloom. Other than the elegant magnolia, visitors will also get a chance to view the winter jasmine, the purple lilac, peony and begonia flowers in the Mentougou district.
