The China National Traditional Orchestra raised the curtain on the Spring of Traditional Chinese Music performance season on Friday night with a concert featuring China's traditional musical instruments and other elements at the National Centre for the Performing Arts(NCPA).
Three of China's top conductors - Liu Sha, Lü Jia and Li Xincao - took to the stage for the concert, which included the song "Yunshanyanmiao," an ode to China's glorious Han (206BC - AD220) and Tang (618-907) dynasties, China's traditional Teochew music and "Qiujiangyueye," a song which transported the audience to a peaceful autumn night on a river.
Additionally, "The Silk Road" by composer Jiang Ying used the power and magic of music to bring the far-away desert and the travelers along one of the world's most renowned trade routes to the theater.
According to the troupe's president, Zhao Cong, the opening concert contributed to the current booming trend toward works that feature China's own style and express the cultural confidence of the Chinese people.
