A manager at the Air China was the recipient of a honorary title for providing safe, high-quality and efficient aviation services for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Zhang Xin, Deputy General Manager of the Ground Services Department of Air China, was among the 148 individuals who received the honorary title of "Individual with Outstanding Contributions to the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games" on Friday.

"I just did my duty. This honor should belong to all the people of Air China who devoted themselves for several months! The collective strength makes us march forward bravely," Zhang said excitedly.

After receiving the award at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Zhang returned to his post on Friday afternoon.

Zhang is a member of the support team for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics of the China National Aviation Holding Corporation (CNAH), known as the Air China Group.

"From the headquarters of the CNAH to the frontline support, all staff in their respective posts expressed their sincere dedication. We formed a strong force for the security work for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games," said Zhang.

Recalling every detail of the Winter Games, Zhang always mentioned his colleagues who fought next to him.

"It was -10 C on the tarmac and everyone was wearing airtight protective suits. The clothes inside were soaked with sweat and we were frozen to the bone when the cold wind blew. But everyone said, 'we are now engaged in national affairs, this fatigue is not a big deal!'"

Zhang recalled that, on the night of February 20, while people were immersed in the happiness and joy of the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, he and his colleagues had been working continuously for more than 30 hours.

"I started at 7 am on the 20th and worked nonstop until 4 pm on the 21st. That was really tiring," Zhang said.

"Take the baggage sorting for example. On February 20, 139 baggage handlers managed more than 11,000 pieces of luggage. One third of the large pieces of luggage could not reach the sorting hall of building E at Terminal 3 [of the Beijing Capital International Airport] directly [through the baggage carousel]. All of them were handled manually, with a total weight of 212 tons," said Zhang.

The result of hard work has won Air China Group many thank-you letters from the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which highly appraised the results of zero complaints and zero infections while guaranteeing transportation services.

As the Official Partner of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, Air China, a subsidiary of the CNAH, committed to provide quality and convenient air services for the Chinese Olympic team.

Building a solid protection of epidemic prevention and control was a key issue to ensure flight transportation for the Winter Olympics. The goal of the CNAH was to achieve zero infections on all airport ground support personnel, flight mission personnel, and staff stationed in the Winter Olympic villages.

All employees of the Air China Group entered the closed-loop management, including Zhang.

"Benefiting from the experience of ensuring the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the continuous improvement of transport security services during the epidemic prevention and control, we quickly came up with an operation service plan for baggage claims at peak hours for Beijing 2022," Zhang said.
