An official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Thursday that the ministry will further accelerate the implementation of regulations and standards targeting data security in key sectors such as personal information and artificial intelligence, in a bid to strengthen the protection of personal information and supervision of data security.
Moreover, the MIIT will further protect users’ rights by enhancing supervision to achieve full regulatory coverage of application stores, third-party software development kits, terminal companies and key internet companies to create a safer information and communication environment for consumers, said Sui Jing, an MIIT official.
Sui’s response came after some media outlets asked questions about how the authorities supervise the excessive collection of personal information.
The MIIT previously established a series of standards to set up a standardized security system for industrial data security, while guiding relevant units to strictly promote the process, said Sui.
She noted that the MIIT has conducted technical tests on 2.08 million apps in 2021, recording 1,549 violations and taking down 514 apps.
Moving forward, the MIIT will continue carrying out targeted rectification while cooperating with relevant authorities to create a safer and more reliable environment for protection of personal information and ensure data security.
In 2021, some 45,000 fraud-related codes and 1.04 million domain names were disposed of, while 1.95 billion phone calls and 2.14 billion messages related to fraud were intercepted, said Sui.
