The world's largest iPhone factory, operated by Foxconn Technology Group in Zhengzhou, Central China's Henan Province, is operating normally, despite local anti-epidemic measures and mass COVID-19 testing that began last week, the company said on Tuesday, easing concerns over Apple's supply chain in China.
The factory is an important node of the Apple supply chain. If logistics systems are blocked, the supply chain may be interrupted. But Foxconn confirmed to the Global Times on Tuesday that the Zhengzhou factory is operating normally.
Wang Xue, deputy general manager of Foxconn Zhengzhou Technology Park, said that its production and operations are running as usual, from delivery and production to material supplies, according to local media outlet www.hndt.com.
Goods delivered from China and abroad are subject to advance sterilization and nucleic acid sampling, and they will be distributed to production units only when there is no problem with nucleic acid sampling, according to Li Junqiang, who is responsible for the logistics of Foxconn Technology Group, the local media outlet said.
The group has set up 88 nucleic acid testing points in the factory and its housing facilities, and there are two vaccination points. Staffers can take nucleic acid tests or get vaccinated without leaving the factory.
The Zhengzhou plant is the main manufacturing base for Foxconn to produce iPhones for Apple, with more than 90 production lines and about 350,000 workers.
On Monday, Zhengzhou reported eight cases of local asymptomatic COVID-19 infections, according to the Health Commission of Henan Province on Tuesday.
Apple is scheduled to announce its fiscal second-quarter results for 2022 at the end of this month. Last quarter, Apple reported a revenue record of $123.95 billion, up 11 percent year-on-year.
